Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville Has Broad Impact on Clarksville and Montgomery County

Clarksville, TN, April 27, 2022 – Over the course of a year, the impact of Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville adds up as the skilled and compassionate hands of physicians, nurses and other team members deliver safe, quality care around the clock every day. Beyond clinical care, Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville is a major employer and regularly invests resources to expand and enhance the services available locally. The overall community benefit each year is significant and totaled more than $195.9 million in 2021.

Last year, the hospital and clinics delivered care at more than 300,000 patient visits as the pandemic heightened the need for medical care. The hospital has supported more than 1,900 COVID inpatients since March 2020 while sustaining all of its other medical services. To help protect the community from the COVID-19 virus, 4,500 vaccine doses were provided to the Tennova team and members of the community.

“We provided quality care for patients with COVID and other broad range of medical needs,” said Alex Villa, chief executive officer for Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville. “Our committed team of clinicians and caregivers demonstrated their resiliency while meeting the needs of our community.  Their impact was evident in so many ways - a patient’s heart beating in rhythm following a severe cardiac event, the anticipation of a more active life following a joint replacement, the smile on parents’ faces when they can take their baby home from our Neonatal Intensive Unit (NICU) and the sigh of relief when a screening mammogram or colonoscopy results are clear.”

Employees and medical staff brought their skills and compassion to support more than 87,000 emergency department visits, more than 11,000 inpatients and perform more than 9,000 surgeries. Over 191,000 patients received care across the Tennova Medical Group physician clinics, Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, cardiac and physical rehabilitation. The hospital also delivered joy to local families as more than 1,900 babies were born.

Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville continues to grow and evolve as resources are directed toward increased medical services, facilities and technologies that are important to patients. These include 3-D mammography, an additional surgical robotic system, and updates to the cardiovascular cath lab, urology and vascular surgical suites. Access will be enhanced as Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville breaks ground on a satellite hospital, located near 101st Airborne Parkway, designed to provide acute inpatient medical and surgical services, with 12 inpatient beds and a 14-bay Emergency Department, with an anticipated opening early in 2024.

As Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville works to continuously meet patients’ needs, it also gives back to the broader Middle Tennessee region, providing over $90.8 million in charity and uncompensated care for the community’s most vulnerable in 2021. And the $4 million paid in property, sales and GRT taxes helps support civic resources and services. The hospital’s payroll of more than $92 million ripples across the local economy as employees buy goods and services.

Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville also works with local charitable and community organizations such as food pantries, American Cancer Society, and Austin Peay State University, providing more than $10 thousand in donations and outreach. In 2021, the hospital trained more than 2,000 community members in Hands-Only CPR, making it and its HOCPR facilitator the state leader in training for this life saving technique. To date, Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville has also been designated a Stop the Bleed Center by the Department of Defense and is the only hospital in Tennessee to receive this designation.
