Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive Collects 1,558 Jars of Peanut Butter for Urban Ministries

Clarksville, Tennessee (March 24, 2023) – To help address hunger in our community, and in celebration of National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day on April 2, Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville has donated 1,558 jars of peanut butter (and other nut butters) to Clarksville Urban Ministries Grace Assistance. All of the peanut butter was donated by Tennova’s employees and volunteers during the recent Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive.

According to Deborah Ashcraft, Grace Assistance program director, over 25 percent of residents in the Clarksville area struggle to put food on the table. The Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive was launched to help support individuals who are facing food insecurity, which is a social determinant of health.

“Food insecurity has a significant impact on a person’s overall health and wellbeing,” said Drew Emery, CEO. “Through our Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive, we are working to help fight hunger in our community. Our generous employees really stepped up to help stock the shelves of Urban Ministries Grace Assistance.”

Peanut butter is one of the most requested items for food banks because it is highly nutritious and has a long shelf life. Unfortunately, many food banks in America report it is also one of the least donated food items. Other foods needed by Urban Ministries Grace Assistance include nonperishable items such as pasta and rice, canned goods, and packaged breakfast items.

“No one should have to choose between eating and paying other bills” states Ms. Ashcraft. “We are so thankful to the team at Tennova for the generous donation of over 1,550 jars of peanut butter which will benefit so many in our community.”
