Tennova Healthcare to Request Location Change for Implementation of Approved Hospital CON
6/4/2025
CLARKSVILLE, TN (June 4, 2025) – In the coming days, Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville will submit to the Tennessee Health Services and Development Agency a request to change the location for the implementation of its approved Certificate of Need (CON) to construct a new, 12-bed hospital. The new site is a 10-acre property immediately adjacent to the current Tennova ER – Sango.
Tennova has been actively pursuing this path well before Ascension and HCA/TriStar Health announced their intent to apply for CONS for new hospital facilities in Clarksville.
“Our deep history extends for more than 70 years of caring for Montgomery County,” said Drew Emery, chief executive officer of Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville. “As the only health system based in Clarksville, it is our mission to provide the care Clarksville-area patients need close to home. Our work to increase care close to home for Clarksville, Montgomery County and all of the communities we serve has never wavered. We are continually adding more medical services, facilities and technologies, and recruiting doctors.”
Over the past three years, Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville has recruited multiple providers, including primary care doctors and specialists in neuro-spine and orthopedic surgery, added new therapies for cardiovascular care, and invested in robotic surgical equipment for knee replacement and other minimally-invasive procedures.
Nashville-based healthcare systems may be more motivated to transfer patients to their larger facilities an hour away. The two newly proposed hospitals have a limited number of beds available and services that duplicate those offered at Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville. None of the proposals will increase availability of higher acuity care, such as trauma care or heart surgery, or needed services such as behavioral health.
“Our fast-growing community will need more healthcare services in the future and we believe Tennova Healthcare remains the best choice for expanding health facilities,” said Emery. “Through the skills of our team, we have a strong ability to deliver a wide range of services, including primary care, emergency care, maternity care, cardiac care, surgical care, orthopedic care, and so much more – right here, at home.”
